Beaver Valley 3&4 - Fox Ridge Road (37.5 km) to Eugenia falls (56.2 km) - October 13th, 2017

The weather was much the same for our second day of hiking as Fran, Ron and Steve, started on a 18.7 km hike to complete the East side of the Beaver Valley.

The trail starts up the escarpment from the parking lot giving us a quick warm-up for the day.

Ron soon found what he believes was Chuga (spelling?).  Eric had informed us on an earlier hike that you can make tea from this.  I have yet to try but perhaps Ron or Eric will.

The trail follows a crevice to the top of the escarpment.

The view was spectacular.

Admiring the view.

Some road walking on country roads.

Our elevensies had a view!

A sample for Ron.

After climbing to the top of the escarpment and passing the surge towers for a hydro plant, we descended into the Valley again.

The top of Eugenia Falls and the conclusion of our hike.

Beaver Valley #2 - 6th Line (14 km) to Fox Ridge Road (37.5 km) - Oct. 12th, 2017

It was a cloudy cool day when Fran, Ron, and Steve started a 23.5 km hike through the north east part of Beaver Valley.  We combined the normal BV hikes 2 through 4 into 2 hikes to allow completion of the Beaver Valley Section this year.

The leaves had turned but the dull skies didn't help.

We crossed a stream.

But we were soon back to road walking.

We passed though a series of farmers fields.

The sumac was in full colour

and into the forest

with a carpet of fallen leaves.

Some interesting specimens for Ron

We encountered a porcupine along the trail.

We soon came to the Metcalfe Crevice Side Trail

We soon crossed Mill Creek and Ron found a new specimen.

As we ended our hike we came across some wild turkeys who had luckily missed Thanksgiving.
