Peninsula - Park Rd. (35.0 km) to Jackson's Cove Rd. (51.2 km) - June 28th, 2019

Today's hike was 16.2 km over fairly difficult terrain with threatening weather for a change.  Fran continued as leader and photographer with Annette joining today's hike along with Ron B., David, and Ron J. who was completing his E2E on this hike!

The hike begins with a steep ascent though boulders and ultimately a staircase to the top of the escarpment.

A spectacular view from the top of the escarpment.

Ron found some interesting plants whose names you will have to get from Ron.

After a 7 km hike around Sydney Bay Bluff, the Trail descends the escarpment.

The obligatory Bridge picture.

The Trail passes through the village of Hope Bay where Ron J. completes his E2E!

Meanwhile, Stefan was completing his E2E in Sydenham with a downpour to try and dampen our spirits!

Lunch in Hope Bay beside the water.

and flowers.

After passing through the village, the Trail rises steeply to the top of the escarpment and passes some glacial potholes.

Some interesting plant life before the hike is done.

The hike ended with a very challenging final kilometer but all survived.
Congratulations to Ron J. for completing your E2E.  It is always a pleasure to have you along as you make every hike interesting with your expansive knowledge and willingness to share with us all.

The hike today was 20 km with Fran again as the leader and photographer with supplements from Ron J., along with fellow hikers, Ron B. and David.

The weather cooperated again with beautiful blue skies. The Trail follows the escarpment with some spectacular viewpoints

The trail moves inland to cut across Malcom's Bluff.

The Trail crosses some smaller crevices but plants seem to grow anywhere.

Some interesting plants that Ron could tell you what they we were.

The Trail descends the escarpment at the Moss Crevice ladder.

The Trail follows along the slope of the escarpment.

and then returns to the top of the escarpment through old fields

A view of Kings Point Bluff.

The pink round ball-like structures on the rotten log is a Lycogala epiderdrum (so-called pink toothpaste slime mould due to the pink material that would ooze out if the 'balls' were broken).

and a closer view.

Chanterelle Mushrooms that Ron says were delicious.

More spectacular views over Sydney Bay.

David is wondering if Fran realizes what one step back would mean.

Ron found numerous flowers in bloom.

The Trail passes through the Cape Croker Indian Park.

The park has a marshy area with a boardwalk.

and a number of special flowers including the Showy Pink Orchid.

and a beaver house.

and a park bench to rest.  luckily the cars were just down the Trail so it was off back to Owen Sound to celebrate Ron and Stefan's pending completion of their E2E's!.
