Iroquoia -Sydenham Lookout (60.0 km) to Artaban Rd. (46.7 km) - May 24th, 2018

We started the hike at the Sydenham Lookout and walked through the town of Dundas and the Dundas Conservation Area to the Artaban Rd parking lot.

David, Rhonda, Ron, Catherine, Sandra, Arpi, Nancy. Annette, Eric, Ann, and Stefan joined Steve the photographer for this 13 km hike on a warm sunny day.

The hike begins with a steep descent from the Lookout but we were soon into the town.

We were soon back into the forest where Ron narrowly escaped the jaws of an alligator.

The May Apples were in flower as well as the Lillies of the Valley

Another large tree to detour.

Our leader made us detour to smell the roses or was it pond scum.

Obligatory bridge photo.

What goes up the hill...

Must come down.

Rhonda was feeling so good she thought she could fly!

Nearing the end of the hike we think.

One last hill!

But what a hill.  The cars were still there though so homeward bound we were.

Peninsula #1, Bluewater Park, Wiarton km 0.0 to Purple Valley Access Trail km 14.8; May 18, 2018

Today we started in at Wiarton Willy's statue and hiked along the
north shore of Colpoy's bay to the Purple Valley Access Trail
Same hikers as May 16th pictures, you know who you are.
Still sunny just a bit more windy as we hike along the north shore of Colpoy's Bay
A spiral staircase takes us to the top of the Escarpment
The Corran ruins.

"Damn Tourists."

A porcupine up a tree
He's hard to see
But he's there, believe me.

There were two of these stations set up on this section to remove
foriegh matter from the soles of our hiking boots... great idea.

Unbelievable fields of trilliums.
Case & Steve taking in the scenic view of Colpoy's Bay on 'Sharon's Bench'.
A tribute to Sharon France who left us too soon.

A few trees down along the trail. Evidence of a recent windstorm.
A rock.
A last look out to Georgian Bay as we wind up three fantastic days of hiking.
.... one more picture of the fields of trilliums.

Peninsula #2, McIver Road km 30.2 to Purple Valley Access Trail km 14.8; May 17, 2018

The second day of our three day hike on the Peninsula,
from McIver Road to the Purple Valley Access Trail
Same hikers as in the May 16th pictures
Another great day, cool and a bit of wind to keep the bugs away.
We hike a 7 km loop around Jones Bluff. Sydney Bay to the north

At the middle of the loop we look out to Georgian Bay.

 "Look ... a bear !!!"
We were not actually quick enough to get a picture of the bear
but this is a recreation  of events based on eyewitness reports.
The group decided to stick close together.
Ann was a bit edgy when she was delegated to the back of the line.

 Lunch

There were a lot of fissures through the rock.
 Fiddleheads
This would be neat in your backyard as a canopy over your barbecue.
One last look at Georgian Bay and then a stop in Wiarton for Ice Cream
