Toronto km 11,2 to km 21.3 - 10 December, 2015

Section from the Pear Tree Park parking lot on 15 Sideroad in Halton Co. to Limehouse at the intersection of 22 Sideroad and 5th Line.

Started out as a very foggy day with temp of 8 - 10C.

Todays hikers; Richard; Carol; Anita; John N.; Christine; Karen, our leader; Andy; John N; John G; and Case.

We started out in the fog along 15 Sideroad across Hwy 25 at Speyside.and 

turned left into the Speyside Forest.

The Trail crosses the Fourth Line, we climb a stile and continue along the edge of 

farmer's fields.

Elevensies

The Trail turns left and follows the 5th Line for 100 m, turns right and climbs a rock face 

into the Limehouse Conservation Area.

The main Trail heads past a series of rock fissures before dropping through the 

"Hole-in-the-Wall" on two ladders

The Trail follows the bed of the old Toronto Suburban Radial Railway and then crosses 

the Black Creek near the remains of an old mill.

We pass a lime kiln and a restored powder magazine before reaching our cars parked 

at the Limehouse Memorial Hall.

Section from where the Philip Gosling Side Trail meets the Bruce Taril at the Hilton Falls Conservation Area Parking Lot to the Pear Tree Parking Area on the 15 Side Road at Speyside.

Weather was perfect for hiking, we started out with sunshine and about 3 C. Although the forcast was for some rain it never materializes. It did cloud over and the temp went up to about 5-6 C.

We had a contingent of 16 hikers, not all in this picture. From left to right Helgy and Steve
 just recently completed their End to End, Andy and Christine are working on their End to
 End and need this section. Karen is the Leader and the rest, you know who you are.

The trail starts out through pines and climbs the escarpment.

At the crest we had a water break.

The Trail crosses the 6th Line, passes through a crevice in the rock.and continues for
km 4.5 along the edge of the escarpment. Many of the small, gnarled cedars clinging to
the edge of the cliffs in this areaare upwards of 500 years old.

At km 4.5 the Trail crosses the Dufferin Quarry Bridge which spans 40 m.
The bridge, built in 1991 was funded by corperate, private and public sponsers.

The Trail leads northward past several lookout points.
and the Greystone Golf Club

Lunch break.

We reach the cars at Pear Tree Park and work out the logistics of getting sixteen weary
 hikers home again.
