Iroquoia #1 - Lewis Road to Grimsby - April 17th, 2017

Weather:  Sunny and 10 degrees, perfect for hiking!

Hikers: Fran, Rhonda, Ann, David and Steve behind the camera trying to be a poor substitute for Case who was AWOL today.

We started the hike with the strenuous Lewis Road Access Trail to start on the main Bruce Trail towards Grimsby.

This waterfall appears to be almost ready to disappear for the season.

We soon encountered this large multi coloured fungus and thought of Ron, our resident botanist.

The trail is about halfway up the Escarpment through this section and as a result there are continuous up and down rocky sections to enjoy!

Spring had certainly sprung and seemed like we could see the plants growing as we walked along.

The first red trillium of the season!  And who's manicured fingers are those?

And the first Walking Fern and more importantly, are those the same fingers?

Any ideas what we are looking at here?

The ground was relatively dry with only the occasional muddy patch.

We begin the climb to the top of the Escarpment.

A spectacular view across the lake to Toronto from the top of the Escarpment.  That white dome that looks like the Skydome is apparently the Skydome.

Any ideas what we are looking at?

And yet another unidentified flower.  Where is Ron?

We stopped for lunch at the Niagara Peninsula Hawkwatch which was in full swing.

We expected Turkey Vultures to top the list of sightings but last Thursday there were over 330 sightings of the Broad Tailed Hawk.

Lots of smiles as we begin our final descent to the cars below.

A final tree in full blossom before we finished the hike.

Congratulations to Fran who has now completed her Iroquoia Section!
