Beaver Valley Km 56.2 to Km 70.1 - 11 May, 2016

This section starts at Eugenia Falls. km 56.2, and follows the Bruce Trail to km70.1 at Johnston's Sideroad.

Another nice day starting out cool but warming up as the day goes on. Again no bugs!

Today's hikers; Andy; Karen our leader; Christine and Case.
Our hike started at the Eugenia Falls lookout where the Beaver River drops 30m.
From the lookout the Trail follows the ridge high above the Beaver River.

The Trail comes to crest of a large till cone, a "kame" created by the plunge pool of an
ancient intra-glacial waterfall.

The Trail gradually ascends a rocky hogback ridge through a mature hardwood forest.
The Trail enters a beautiful upland meadow marked at its summit by a
single spectacular hemlock tree.
The Last Stand

A singular Dogtooth Violet quietly watches us pass.
The Trail crosses Rock Mills Creek.

At Hoggs Falls on the Boyne River we have a lunch break.

From here we have magnificent views east across to Cuckoo Valley and north down
the Beaver Valley
We arrive at the car and return to our cozy cabin on Lake Euginia
After a shower and change of clothes we were off looking for a place to eat.
Not easy when most places in the area are closed mid-week or off-season.
but at the Flying Spatula Diner in Flesherton it was"wing night'..
